BACHOK 24 October 2023 I They are not only cute but so fluffy at the same time! Who can resists looking at their playful antics while running and striking various poses in a cat fashion show. In reality, many may not know that cats also need recreational activities, exercise, and lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
Hence, the organization of the Cat-Walk Fun Run 2023 programme by the Pet Laboratory (CATeL), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FPV), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), recently took place with great enthusiasm as a platform for cat owners to marathon with their pets.
Dr. Mohd Farhan Hanif Reduan, the Dean of FPV, stated that this programme not only encourages owners to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle but also helps strengthen the bond between cats and their owners.
He mentioned that the Cat-Walk Fun Run 2023 programme was held in conjunction with the organization of the 'Animal Awareness Day' programme, in collaboration with the UMK Registrar Office, RJ Cats Motel & Spa, and the Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine (MSPTM).
“The '1KM Walk with Cat' running programme received an outstanding response with about 400 participants, even though it was the first time held at UMK. Participants were individuals of various age groups, especially cat enthusiasts, school students, and UMK students.
"Participants were briefed beforehand, especially to ensure the safety and health of the cats brought along, making sure they were well taken care of and did not experience any injuries throughout the 'Walk with Cat' activity," he said after officiating the flag-off for the 1KM Walk with Cat and 5KM Fun Run at the Bangunan Canselori, UMK Bachok, Kelantan, recently.
Also present were the Deputy Dean of FPV, Dr. Nor Fadhilah Kamaruzzaman, and a representative from MSPTM, Dato' Dr. Chandrawathani Panchadcharam.
The programme was also enlivened with a 'Cat Fashion Show,' an awareness talk by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Choong Siew Shean related to community awareness, especially regarding zoonotic diseases. Additionally, there were booths selling cat accessories and food.
