KOTA BHARU I A total of 25 students of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) received a grant amounting to RM375,00 to make the Bumiputera Youth Entrepreneur Budding Programme (TUBE@IPT) of SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp) a success.
The TUBE@IPT programme was coordinated by the Institute of Small and Medium Enterprises (ISME) and the UMK Entrepreneurship Institute (UMKEI) in collaboration with SME Corp Malaysia.
Director of ISME, Dr Dzulkifli Mukhtar said, TUBE@IPT is a continuation of the Bumiputera Youth Entrepreneur Budding programme which was launched in 2014 with an initial allocation of RM10 million.
He said, the TUBE@IPT programme focuses on the development of entrepreneurship among male and female students who have a deep interest in the field.
"ISME UMKEI believes that this programme directly supports the country's youth development policy where entrepreneurship is one of the main areas of focus for the youth to move forward," he said in conjunction with the Meet & Greet Session Programme for Bumiputera Youth Entrepreneur Budding Programme (TUBE)@IPT at the Experimental Hall, UMK Kampus Kota, Pengkalan Chepa, on Thursday.
The programme was held to gather all TUBERs, mentors, associate mentors, and SME Corp representatives for a joint evaluation session to see the performance of future millionaire protégé.
UMK Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Razli Che Razak and Chief Executive (Implementation and Development) of SME Corp Malaysia, Zaki Moh, were also present.
According to him, the programme directly supports the country's youth development policy in which entrepreneurship is one of the main areas of focus for the youth to move forward.
He said, among other universities involved in the TUBE@IPT programme are Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), International Islamic University Malaysia (UIA), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
He said, this pilot project will train 160 Bumiputera graduates to start their business and be monitored for 12 months.
"TUBE@IPT is divided into three main phases which involved Boot Camp training, Business Basics Workshop and Business Operations which are monitored by the Buddy or mentoring system.
"In terms of the TUBEr business sector, out of 12 UMK participants involved in the food and beverage sector, six people are involved in the service sector, two are involved in manufacturing and animal husbandry respectively while one in each category of agriculture, fisheries and food services," he said.
