UMK WOODBALL COURSE RECOGNISED INTERNATIONALLY, RECEIVES ACKNOWLEDGMENT FROM THE MALAYSIA WOODBALL ASSOCIATION (MWA)

 

BACHOK 8 February 2024 I Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) made history as the UMK Woodball Course is recognized as the first Woodball course in Malaysia to receive recognition from the Malaysia Woodball Association (WMA), thus becoming the first woodball arena in Kelantan.

The official opening ceremony of the course, which meets WMA standards, was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor of UMK, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Razli Che Razak, at the Chancellor Building Lobby and Woodball Course, UMK Bachok, today.

The historic moment was also witnessed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ismail, Assistant Director (Management Services) of the Kelantan State Sports Council, Tuan Aziz Tuan Mat, Deputy Director of the Kelantan State Youth and Sports Department, Mr. Hazri Nizam Zakaria, Vice President of WMA, Mr. Zulkarnain Mohamed Shaharuddin, and Director of the UMK Sports Centre, Mr. Wan Ahmad Khairul Wan Ahmad Najib.

According to Prof. Dato’ Dr. Razli, with this recognition, the UMK Woodball Course will be designated as the venue for national-level woodball circuit competitions are scheduled to take place in mid-2024.

He mentioned that the internationally recognised course began construction in July 2023, with a significant allocation to ensure the smooth development of the course.

"It is a tremendous honour for UMK to receive recognition from WMA for the development of this sport, especially for school students, the general public, government agencies, and others.

"I was informed that the Malaysia Woodball Association is currently in the process of bidding for woodball events in the Kejohanan Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA).

"With the hosting of these competitive championships, it becomes part of our social entrepreneurship programme, especially in boosting the local economy and UMK's community service to the public," he said.

At the event, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Razli and distinguished guests had the opportunity to try the woodball sport while enjoying the tranquillity of the UMK lake, which offers a beautiful view as part of the officiating gimmick of the UMK Woodball Course.
