BACHOK, 3 May 2023 I Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) through the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Business (FKP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), to establish academic collaboration aimed at producing more professional accounting students as well as develop the employability of graduates in the field of accounting.
The virtual MoU signing ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Nik Maheran Nik Muhammad, representing UMK Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Dr. Razli Che Razak, and the President of MICPA, Dato' Gan Ah Tee, at the American Corner, Office of Library and Knowledge Management, UMK Bachok, Kelantan.
The MoU signing was also witnessed by the Dean of the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Business (FKP), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zailani Abdullah, and the Executive Director of MICPA, Mr. Foo Yoke Pin.
According to Prof. Dr. Nik Maheran, UMK always strives to take initiatives in collaboration with all parties, including professional bodies such as MICPA, to ensure that our students acquire the best knowledge and experience, supplemented with greater exposure from industries and professionals.
She further mentioned that this collaboration can contribute to career opportunities and enable students to gain valuable experience in the market, ultimately enhancing their employability.
"With this collaboration, UMK can also gain knowledge sharing and expertise related to accounting topics from professional speakers from MICPA, benefiting both UMK students and academics," she added.
Prof. Dr. Nik Maheran stated that MICPA also provides a pathway for UMK students to start professional programmes offered by MICPA in their third year of accounting degree studies.
The areas of collaboration agreed upon between UMK and MICPA, among others, are: (a) developing accounting-related educational programmes; (b) promoting institutional exchanges by inviting faculties and staff from partner institutions to participate; (c) organising symposiums, conferences, short-term courses, and meetings on accounting-related topics.
"This collaboration also allows for the exchange of information related to the development of teaching, training, and student development, as well as cooperation in any other areas as mutually agreed upon in writing by both parties from time to time," she said.
Also present at this event was the UMK accounting team consisting of the Head of Business and Accounting Department, Dr Nadzirah Mohd Said, Accounting Programme Coordinator, Dr. Mohd Rushdan Yasoa' and several accounting lecturers who are directly involved in the implementation of the accounting programme at UMK.
