UMK SIGNS MOU WITH FIVE INDUSTRIES, ENSURES EMPLOYABILITY OF GRADUATES & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN ACCOUNTING EDUCATION

KOTA BHARU 30 October 2023 I In an effort to produce more accounting professionals, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and four other industries, namely Yayasan Peneraju, Tymba Education Group, Malaysia Professional Accountancy Centre (MYPAC), and Autocount Sdn. Bhd.

Collaboration with these five industries represents UMK's strong commitment to the development of accounting education at the university.

UMK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Razli Che Razak, stated that the MoU is aimed at establishing cooperative relationships between UMK and the five industries for the promotion and collaboration in the field of accounting education.

He said that through the collaboration between UMK and these industries, it indirectly helps UMK students, especially in terms of professional accounting education and financial resources.

"This collaboration also includes tuition assistance programmes for the preparation of professional accounting examinations paper and exposure to internationally recognized computerized accounting certifications.

"This commitment aims to ensure that UMK students receive the best education and industry exposure, as well as opportunities to build professional relationships.

"I believe that this collaboration plays a crucial role in enhancing the relevance of students in the job market and subsequently improving their employability upon graduation," he said.

He made these remarks at the MoU signing ceremony between UMK and industry partners at the Senate Meeting Room, UMK Kota Campus, Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan, today.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Razli, while ACCA was represented by Head of Portfolio, ACCA Southeast Asia, Andrew Lim, Acting CEO of Yayasan Peneraju, Dr. Amina Josetta, CEO of Tymba Education Group, Mr. Airil Razali, CEO of MyPAC, Dato’ Zaiton Mohd Hassan, and Senior Executive of Autocount Sdn. Bhd., Mr. Nazzel Maznor Tohar.

Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dato’ Dr. Nik Maheran Nik Muhammad, the Dean of the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Business (FKP), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zailani Abdullah, and the Accounting Programme Coordinator for FKP, Dr. Mohd Rushdan Bin Yasoa'.

According to Prof. Dato’ Dr. Razli, at present, UMK has a total of 216 active accounting students who will benefit from the collaborative relationship with these five industries.

He mentioned that with the increase in new students intake, especially in the accounting programme for the 2023/2024 session, it is a positive sign that UMK's accounting programme offerings are gaining recognition in the market.

"Therefore, together, we will ensure that the programmes and the curriculum are aligned with the needs of the industry, both at the national and international levels. Through this MoU collaboration initiative, we can contribute to addressing our country's need to produce more professional accountants in the future," he said.

Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zailani stated that this collaboration can enhance the ongoing relationship with ACCA, especially regarding the accreditation of internationally recognized professional accounting studies.

"For study financing, students can apply through Yayasan Peneraju, and MyPac is a crucial element to encourage students to stay motivated in completing all four strategic professional accounting papers of ACCA.

"The assistance and support from Tymba in the form of tuition classes are equally important to ensure that students successfully pass all these professional papers.

Additionally, Autocount is vital for all accounting lecturers and students, continuously updating skills in the latest accounting software technology," he said.
