MOURNING MOTHER RECEIVES THE DEGREE OF LATE YOUNGEST CHILD

BACHOK 6 November 2023 I A somber atmosphere enveloped the audience at the Dewan Tuanku Canselor (DTC) of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) Bachok as soon as the name of the late Muhammad Ibrahim Abd Aziz, a fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Geoscience, Faculty of Earth Science (FSB), was announced as a posthumous degree recipient.

The late Muhammad Ibrahim Abd Aziz's mother, Rohana Sahat, 61, was seen wiping away tears as she received the posthumous degree scroll presented by UMK Pro-Chancellor, Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz.

The late graduate was one of the 2,839 graduates receiving their respective degrees at the 13th UMK Convocation Ceremony, which concludes tomorrow.

Muhammad Ibrahim, who was from Kampung Parit Buaya, Muar, Johor, passed away in a motorcycle accident on 12 November 2022.

According to Rohana, Ibrahim was the youngest of seven siblings, and throughout his studies at UMK, he was well-liked by his lecturers and peers on campus.

Rohana said the late Ibrahim had aspirations of becoming an entrepreneur upon completing his studies at UMK, and since childhood, he had been actively involved in helping with the family's business in the village. She added that every semester break, Ibrahim would assist her in running a school canteen business.

"I feel a great loss with Ibrahim's passing because he was close to me and the family. He was also humorous and liked to brighten the atmosphere when we gathered. Ibrahim was also a loving son and would hold my hand when walking anywhere. He was not shy to hug me even in front of his friends, earning him the nickname of mom's boy," she said.

Meanwhile, Yusof Abd Aziz, 34, Ibrahim's brother, mentioned that a few months before the accident, Ibrahim enjoyed travelling alone.

“We, as a family, once went on vacation to Cameron Highlands, and Ibrahim decided to extend his vacation alone in Penang. In addition, Ibrahim's friends also shared with us that he liked to spend time alone outside his dormitory room after the Fajr prayer.

"Ibrahim also once joked that if he passed away, he wished to be buried in front of our house. We considered it just a joke, but Alhamdulillah, it became a reality, as his grave is indeed in the front row and situated by the roadside in the cemetery area.

"How great his love was for his mother. Even in his passing, he wanted to be close to his mother," she said.
