UMK OFFERS BACHELOR OF ENERGY TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMME STARTING IN SEPTEMBER 2024

 

JELI 8 January 2024 I Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), through the Faculty of Bioengineering and Technology (FBKT), will be offering a new Bachelor's Degree programme in the field of Energy Technology.

The Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs (FBKT), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ainihayati Abdul Rahim, stated that the offering of this new programme is expected to commence in the September semester of the 2024/2025 session. She mentioned that this programme will be conducted through a combination of coursework and industrial training modes, with a study duration of 3.5 years.

"The Faculty is also planning to offer the Energy Literacy Course as an elective course that will be available to FBKT students and offered across faculties.

“UMK is the first public university in Kelantan to offer this programme which particularly focuses on energy transition, energy efficiency, consumer literacy, and safety," she said at the opening ceremony of the Malaysia Energy Literacy Programme (MELP) 2024 Seminar organised by FBKT in collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), at the Dewan Utama, UMK Jeli Campus, Kelantan, today.

The seminar that was attended by 200 FBKT students and the Faculty of Earth Sciences (FSB), was held in conjunction with the Technoinnovation Expo 2024 (TIE 2024).

Also present were the General Manager of TNB Kelantan, Mr. Muhammad Azli Ab Rahim, the Manager of the Pergau Jeli Power Station, Ir. Ts. Mohd Nasron Embong, the Representative of TNB Kelantan Retail Chief, Mr. Muhammad Haslan Ismail, and the Coordinator of the Energy Technology Programme, Dr. Nik Nurul Anis Nik Yussof.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ainihayati, the offering of this new programme can also contribute to the advancement of research and development in energy transition, with exposure to energy transition and sustainability directions, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.

She mentioned that besides the use of electric vehicle ecosystems and energy transition, this will further accelerate digital transformation to adopt sustainable and smart lifestyles.

"UMK and FBKT, in particular, will become the main reference hub in the field of energy technology, as this programme focuses on three objectives: energy management, TBB, and technopreneur-based energy conversion technology for the country's economic generation," she said.
